It was not until after he was convicted of attempting to have sex with a 15 year old boy that the HIV status of Willie Atkins was made known to a jury. This resulted in some good Texas justice of the form of a life sentence. He would have faced just 10 years, but he was already a two time felon which made him eligible for a life term. That was not the end of the story by a long shot.
