Fred Hersch is a famous American jazz musician who has been HIV positive since 1986 and has been spokesperson for AIDS ever since. At the time of his diagnosis there were only a handful of openly gay jazz musicians and fewer openly HIV positive ones. He had just been nominated for a Grammy and feared that coming out would ruin his career, but did it anyway. His career has been getting better ever since. #fredhersch #hivandaids #newyork #newyork
