George Barasa is a famous gospel singer and gay/HIV rights activist from Kenya. He is better known by his stage name Joji Baro. He has been in the headlines internationally this past year due to his work fighting Kenya's ban on homosexuality. His efforts failed when the Kenyan high court held that the law is in fact constitutional. Under Kenyan law a person convicted of homosexuality can spend over 10 years in prison. Since Barasa is an openly gay man with HIV he has since fled Kenya for South Africa and vows never to return to Kenya.
